Welcome to the Rocklin Unified Adult Transition Program.

Welcome to the Rocklin Unified Adult Transition Program.

The program has been designed to support students ages 18-22 years of age.  The Adult Transition Program will prepare students with disabilities for meaningful employment and independent living.   Students learn functional English and math, current events, independent living skills, job skills, cooking and nutrition/health, community safety, self-advocacy, and mobility skills.   This classroom focuses on facilitating adult independence through community-based instruction, hands-on learning, vocational education, and specialized instruction.

Community Based Instruction

This classroom provides ample opportunities for students to engage with their community in order to learn and practice new skills. Staff provide support and guidance to facilitate the students' transition from high school to a role as a contributing adult in the community.
Our classroom will travel by foot, utilize public transportation as well as district vans. The Placer County Transit is a clean, reliable way to teach students how to practice independence and help them get to where they need to go.
  • The focus is on student preparation in accessing and using community environments as independently as possible.
  • Focus on the application of all skill areas in community environments. (social, emotional, math, problem solving...)
  • Includes application of appropriate social skills (e.g. asking for help, socially appropriate interactions)

Vocational Skills

I strongly believe that young people with disabilities should be active participants in making critical decisions about their futures to the best of their abilities. This classroom provides academic and vocational experiences that allow students to envision their potential for meaningful employment and personal fulfillment. The desired outcome is to graduate well-rounded, job-ready, integrated adults.
  • Focus on enhance the likelihood of students being able to become contributing adults within our society and increase the opportunities of securing employment-meaningful work.
  • Instruction in work-related skills, job seeking skills, and job skill training; application of work-related skills.
  • Community-based work experience, on-site work experience (if possible).
  • Practice basic employability skills

Sierra College offers opportunities for our students to join them for PE! The class we enroll in is Kinesiology 0802, otherwise known as Adapted Motor Skills. Our class goes on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The class is led by Mr. Wayne Barbee, who has been teaching for many years. He has excellent rapport with our students and works hard to modify the class to meet all ability levels.

Students have the opportunity to dress up/down by using the locker rooms at Sierra College. We travel to Sierra College by using district vans. While in class students participate in a number of physical sports and activities including:
Running
Sprinting
Stretching
Basketball
Frisbee
Dodgeball
Baseball
etc.

The class is composed of a plethora of programs around Placer County including other Rocklin Transition classes, Auburn Transition, and Roseville Transition.

Students are encouraged to follow peer prompting as well as staff and adult prompting, presenting a great inclusion opportunity.

Students also have the opportunity to sign up for other classes at Sierra College. In Fall 2021, adapted swimming is available. This class is led by Coach Wayne Barbee. It will be right before our Kinesiology class. This class has a fee of around $95.

Classroom instruction

                                                        welcome classroom

This transition class has a primary focus on teaching independent living skills, employment skills, communication skills, and behavior skills.

We work closely with district service providers to create a rich learning environment that molds well-rounded habits. Services provided to students are outlined in each student's IEP, however on-going collaboration between teachers, aides, and service providers ensure that all students benefit from evidence-based practices in a multitude of disciplines.

Our classroom spend most of its time out in the community in order to practice life skills such as budgeting, grocery shopping, taking public transportation, planning, etc. While in the classroom, we offer traditional academic training such as mathematic skills, literacy skills, comprehension, gardening, cooking and executive functioning. We provide as much hands-on oppotunities a possible to make the classroom learning relevant to the world outside of the structured school day.
  • Focus of academic skills necessary to function in everyday life.
  • Functional=being able to relate these skills to everyday life.
