Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA)

The Rocklin Unified School District (RUSD) is committed to providing enriching Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) experiences for all students, fostering creativity, self-expression, and academic excellence. Through comprehensive music, dance, theatre, and visual arts programs, students have opportunities to develop their artistic talents and engage in meaningful, integrated learning experiences.

Elementary Music and Arts Education

Elementary Music and Arts Education

  • All 4th-6th grade students participate in band, strings, or choir, with over 2,300 students enrolled.
  • Expansion of arts and music programs to special education classrooms, ensuring inclusive artistic opportunities.
  • Spring "mega-concerts" showcase student talent, with new performance structures for 4th-6th graders.
  • Prop 28 funding has enhanced the quality and variety of instruments available to students.
  • Music Education for K-3 Students: Integrated into the classroom, P.E., and the current VAPA program to provide a foundational music experience.

Music Docent Program

  • Available at all elementary schools starting with the 2025-26 school year, the Music Docent Program brings dedicated volunteers into classrooms to enhance music education.
  • Docents provide engaging, hands-on music experiences that complement existing curriculum.
  • The program helps foster a love for music, rhythm, and creativity among young learners.

Elementary Rhythm and Movement Program

  • Designed for K-2 students to develop musicality, coordination, and creativity.
  • Students engage in bucket drumming, rhythm sticks, and boomwhackers to learn fundamental music concepts.

Secondary Music and Arts Education

Middle and High School Expansion

  • Each middle school now has a dedicated Art Teacher, with additional arts programming at Victory High School.
  • Additional stipends have been provided to high school music teachers to support expanded programming and student participation.
  • Professional development opportunities have increased for VAPA and general education teachers, ensuring high-quality arts instruction at all levels.
