Spring 2025 Artificial Intelligence Pilot
The Rocklin Unified School District (RUSD) is excited to share that our district is launching an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Pilot Program featuring two innovative platforms, MagicSchool AI and Brisk. This program represents a significant step toward equipping our students with essential skills for a future increasingly shaped by technology. The pilot follows action taken by the RUSD Board of Trustees to update the following board policies (BP):
- BP 4040 - Employee Use of Technology
- BP 5131.9 - Academic Honesty (New)
- BP 6162.5 - Student Assessment
- BP 6163.4 - Student Use of Technology
Why AI in Our Classrooms? The pilot provides students with a safe space to begin exploring and using AI tools under the guidance of their teachers. These tools offer opportunities to enhance learning through personalized support, creativity, and collaboration. By introducing AI in a controlled environment, we can ensure students learn to use these tools responsibly and effectively.
Safety First: MagicSchool AI and Brisk platforms are designed with student safety as the highest priority. They fully comply with the Family Educational Rights Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule (COPPA) regulations, ensuring data privacy and security. Teachers will fully oversee student interactions with these tools, fostering a transparent and secure learning experience.
What’s Next? Teachers will be introduced to these AI tools during March, April, and May, with additional training scheduled throughout the next academic year. Students will be gradually introduced to these tools in a structured manner. Before student engagement, instructional lessons will be provided to ensure they develop a clear understanding of AI's capabilities and limitations. Rocklin Unified remains committed to fostering an educational and secure learning environment throughout this implementation process.
How You Can Support: Families are encouraged to engage with their students about what they’re learning and to explore the AI Guidelines resources we’ve provided. This collaboration helps reinforce the responsible and ethical use of AI tools in and out of the classroom.
